Faq Aquarium

Why should I purchase a heater?

To increase the water temperature in order to recreate an environment suited to the various species in the aquarium. For this purpose, we recommend choosing the correct wattage for the heater on the basis of the tank capacity, the room temperature and the required increase in temperature. The temperature increase is shown as DeltaT, which is the difference between the temperature required in the aquarium and the temperature of the room where it is situated.

Where should the heater be positioned?

Place the heater in a vertical position inside the aquarium at a point where there is good water circulation thanks to the presence of a pump, otherwise the thermostat cannot function correctly and the required temperature may not be reached. Perfect operation is achieved when the heated water is quickly pushed away from the bottom of the heater before it can flow back up towards the thermostat and therefore interfere with it working correctly.
DO NOT USE THE HEATER UNLESS IT IS IMMERSED TO AT LEAST THE “MINIMUM” LEVEL.
After immersing it, wait for a few minutes before switching it on, so that the thermostat can adapt to the water temperature.

How do I set the required temperature?

NEWA THERM PRO-ECO:
Turn the adjustment pin on the top of the cap to the required temperature. The thermometric scale on the cap allows easy and accurate adjustment of the heater without removing it from the water. The indicator light shows that it is in operation. For safety purposes, we recommend monitoring the water temperature after a few hours with a precision thermometer.

NEWA Therm mini - NEWA Therm preset

The NEWA Therm mini plus and NEWA Therm preset include a self-resetting thermal cut-off and an electronic thermostat, pre-set at 25°C ±1°. A red light is visible when the heaters are in operation.

How can I ensure the durability of the heater?

The heater requires no maintenance, except for periodically removing any salt or algae deposits from the tube. To remove any deposits do not use detergents, solvents or acids but only water and vinegar.

Useful tips:

THE HEATER MUST NEVER BE PLUGGED INTO THE MAINS SOCKET WHEN IT IS STILL OUT OF THE WATER.
The power lead must not be repaired or replaced. If it is damaged, replace the entire heater.
GLASS HEATERS: The heater must be unplugged from the mains socket for at least 10 minutes before removing it from the water or before changing or adding water.
PLASTIC HEATERS: Disconnect the appliance from the mains socket before removing it from the water. The heaters are provided with a thermal protector that switches them off in the event of operation without water. After shut off, the heaters will automatically restart in approximately 10 minutes.

Why should I purchase a circulation pump?

Circulation pumps are the pulsating heart of the aquarium and ensure correct water flow to the filtering station. Performance must be chosen in order to ensure a filtering frequency that is adequate for maintaining the best conditions for the water in the aquarium. We recommend using a pump with a flow rate of at least 3 times the capacity of the aquarium.

Where should the circulation pump be positioned?

The range of NEWA circulation pumps includes pumps that can operate both inside and outside the water, and pumps that operate only when they are immersed. The circulation pumps for submersible use only are:
– NEWA Micro
– NEWAMini
– NEWA Jet 400/600

The circulation pumps for submersible or external use are:
– NEWA Jet from 800 to 8000
– NEWA Maxi

All the pumps are equipped with a bracket for attaching the suction cups supplied. This enables the product to be fastened in a safe and stable manner to the sides of the tank. We recommend always cleaning the surface well before fastening the circulation pump. The smaller circulation pumps, for submersible use only, are specifically designed to be positioned in the submersible filter compartments. All the pumps are supplied with a special outlet that allows them to be connected to rigid or flexible hoses of various diameters.

How do I get the best results from my product?

All the NEWA circulation pumps, except for the NEWA Maxi and NEWA Jet 4500-6000-8000, are equipped with flow control in order to customise the frequency of water recirculation.
In particular, NEWA Jet (from the NJ800 to 3000 version) is equipped with a special suction outlet with a hose connector, which allows it to be connected to hoses of various diameters. The NJ400 – NJ1200 versions have a bracket for attaching the strainer or the shaped sponge (optional), which is ideal for obtaining an efficient filtering system. The bracket also acts as a flow adjuster.

How can I ensure the durability of the circulation pump?

Newa pumps require hardly any maintenance. However, accurate maintenance ensures maximum performance for the pump. We recommend regularly cleaning the internal parts with a brush and warm water. Any limescale can be removed with vinegar or lemon juice. Do not use solvents.

Useful tips:

The pump must not be left to run dry. The pump can be used in fresh or marine water at a maximum temperature of 35°C. Remember that no pump is self-priming and, for external use, it must be positioned below the level of the water in the tank. The motor of the NEWA Micro-Mini-Maxi 250-500-750, NJ400-600-800 is self-protected through its own impedance from abnormal overheating caused by misuse, running-dry or a jammed rotor. The versions from NJ1200 to NJ 8000 are provided with a self-resetting thermal protector. If the pump should stop operating, please investigate if the thermal cut-off has been activated by first disconnecting the appliance from the electrical supply for approximately 1 hour. Then remove the cause that made the appliance stop, and connect it to the socket again.

Why should I purchase a flow pump?

NEWA Wave pumps are engineered so that they can accurately reproduce the wave-like movements produced by natural water currents. The delicate wave-like movement produced by NEWA Wave guarantees
a constant nutritional supply to corals, maintaining the perfect vitality of sessile animals. NEWA Wave also ensures improved oxygenation for freshwater plants.

Where should the flow pump be positioned?

NEWA Wave must be completely submersed to function correctly. The sturdy suction cup bracket allows the pump to be securely anchored to the sides of the tank; the ball-joint and the lock-nut allow the pump to rotate and lock into the required position. Place the pump inside the aquarium, making sure that the glass is perfecly clean in order to obtain optimum grip.

How do I get the best results from my product?

The best results can be achieved by connecting the flow pumps to water control systems such as Newa Control, which, thanks to customised programmes for the synchronous and asynchronous movement of water flow, recreates natural currents that are typical of rivers and coral reefs.

How can I ensure the durability of the flow pump?

Careful maintenance ensures maximum performance for the pump: we recommend regularly cleaning the internal parts with a brush and lukewarm water. Any limescale can be removed with vinegar or lemon juice. Do not use solvents.

Useful tips:

The pump must not be left to run dry. The pump can be used in fresh or marine water at a maximum temperature of 35°C. The motor of the NWA 1.6 ADJ – 2.7 – 3.9 -5.1 and 7.5 is self-protected through its own impedance from abnormal overheating caused by misuse, running-dry or jammed rotor. The NWA 9.7 is provided with a self-resetting thermal protector. If the pump should stop working, please investigate if the thermal cut-off has been activated by first disconnecting the appliance from the electrical supply for approximately 1 hour. Then remove the cause that led to it stopping and connect the appliance to the socket again.

Why should I purchase a submersible filter?

An aquarium is a closed system that requires continuous purifiction in order to prevent the accumulation of toxic substances and maintain the best conditions for the water in the aquarium.
To prevent irreparable damage to the delicate balance of this fantastic underwater nature corner, the filter plays a vital role in monitoring and maintaining the chemical-organic properties of the water through retention of suspended matter. It reduces the toxicity of some elements, oxygenates the water and keeps it clear via three filtering stages: mechanical, biological and chemical.

Where should the submersible filter be positioned?

NEWA filters can be placed both vertically and horizontally depending on the water level and the kind of tank. The outlet deflector, completely rotating, allows maximum versatility. However, it is advisable to place the filter vertically with the outlet on the water surface so as to create a useful surface movement and a light bottom current facilitating the suction of waste products. The surfaces should always be cleaned well before attaching the suction cups.

How can I get the best results from my product?

Water flow can be adjusted from minimum to maximum (see technical data for each individual product). For better oxygenation and gas exchange use the aeration device. To obtain air when the inlet is under the water surface, use the small adapter which can be directly connected to the air filter or normal air pipe. The air filter also acts as a muffler and adjusts the air supply.
N.B. The aeration device, when in operation, causes a reduction in water flow. The volume of air is reduced when water flow is adjusted to minimum and/or if the air intake is positioned well below the water surface.

How can I ensure the life span of the filter?

It may be necessary to regularly remove any deposits with a brush and lukewarm water. Any limescale can be removed with vinegar or lemon juice. Do not use solvents.
AERATION DEVICE: If the air passage hole should become blocked, clean it with the
nylon wire supplied, or with any thin metal wire.
MECHANICAL FILTER: (when present): Periodically rinse the sponge under warm running water and replace it every 6 months or if it is damaged.
CHEMICAL-ADSORBENT FILTER: The filter cartridge is mechanically sealed and not refillable. It should be replaced every month for maximum efficiency. Ask your retailer for the correct replacement filter cartridge.
BIOLOGICAL FILTER: The biological filter cartridge must not be removed during maintenance of other parts. This will prevent damage to the bacterial colonies. If it should be necessary, rinse it very gently in water from the aquarium that does not contain chlorine or other bactericidal substances, and is at the ideal temperature.

Useful tips:

The filter must not be left to run dry.
The filter can be used in fresh or marine water at a maximum temperature of 35°C.
DO NOT POUR THE WATER USED TO WASH THE FILTERS BACK INTO THE AQUARIUM.
To increase the volume of the biological filter, the chemical-adsorbent filter cartridge can be replaced with one made of sponge, which is available from your retailer.

Why should I purchase a pump timer?

The NEWA Control pump timer, is a monitoring system for recirculation pumps and flow pumps designed to faithfully reproduce the wave motion created by water currents in a natural environment. The gentle wave-like motion ensures the correct supply of nutrients for corals, maintaining the perfect vitality of sessile animals, whereas improved oxygenation is provided for freshwater plants.

How can I get the best results from my product?

Connect one or more pumps (not electronic) to each connector socket, making sure that the overall power does not exceed 100W for each channel. NEWA Control has two programmes for water movement, which can be selected with the “PROG” button. Each one operates with a timer using two adjustment knobs “TIMER ON” and “TIMER OFF”.
Programme A: alternating flow (ON-OFF/OFF-ON). By turning the adjustment knobs, the ON/OFF pulse times can be controlled for pump 1. The times for pump 2 will be the reverse, switching off the pump at the same time interval at which pump 1 stays on and vice versa.
Programme B: synchronized flow (ON-ON/OFF-OFF). By turning the adjustment knobs, the ON/OFF pulse times can be controlled for pump 1 and pump 2. Both pumps will switch on and off at the same time intervals. For further information, please read the instructions.

How can I ensure the durability of the pump timer?

NEWA Control does not require any maintenance.

Useful tips:

To allow the fish in the aquarium to feed,
NEWA Control enables the operation of the synchronized or alternating programme of the pumps to be stopped simultaneously at any time.
